Soft Tissue Grafts

Long teeth due to exposed tooth roots are the result of gum recession. Periodontists are often considered the plastic surgeons of dentistry.  At Andover Periodontics, we will perform gum graft surgery to repair this type of architectural defect and help to prevent additional recession and bone loss.

The objectives of gum grafting surgery in preventing further recession and bone loss are three fold.  The first objective is to thicken the gum tissue. The second is to create a strong and protective band of fibrous tissue, which aids in resisting future gum recession.  The third objective in some cases is to cover exposed roots to protect them from decay and treat root sensitivity.  Whether you have a gum graft to improve function or esthetics, you will often receive the benefits of both: a beautiful smile and improved periodontal health – your keys to smiling, eating and speaking with comfort and confidence.
